Since its inception in 1996, Professional Environmental Solutions (previously known as Professional Ponds) has assisted on and conducted a wide range of projects. The following list includes recent project experience:

Project Title: Dioxin Fish Tissue Monitoring
Subcontractor: Professional Ponds
Contractor: AES, Inc.
Location: Savannah River, Georgia
Project Description: Professional Ponds assisted AES, Inc. in conducting an electrofishing survey and preparing fish tissue samples for dioxin monitoring. The strongest carcinogenic known to man, dioxin is a paper mill waste-product that can be detected in fish tissue. By monitoring dioxin levels, the EPA can control dioxin dumping into rivers.

Project Title: Augusta Shoals Instream Flow Study
Subcontractor: Professional Ponds
Contractor: AES, Inc.
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Project Description: Professional Ponds assisted AES with data collection over a 4.5-mile stretch of river and on-site stream flow calculations during all three controlled river stages. "Components of this survey include fish habitat mapping and collection of hydraulic data at three controlled stages of river flow. The results of this study will be used to assist the City of Augusta with FERC hydrorelicensing needs, as well as future water-use planning objectives."*

Project Title: Sedimentation Survey at Lake Crossing
Contractor: Professional Ponds
Location: Austell, GA
Project Description: Sedimentation is not only aesthetically unappealing, but it can also jeopardize the health of a pond. Fifty-seven sediment checkpoints were calculated in the pond where sediment loading was a problem. This study revealed that the pond owner lost 2 acres of water due to sediment.

Project Title: Fisheries Management Plan
Contractor: Professional Ponds
Location: Lakes and Ponds throughout Georgia
Project Description: Pro Ponds surveys private ponds on a yearly basis to inform owners of proper lake and pond management techniques. Management plans include information about the basic food chain, limnology, fish stocking, aquatic weed control, water quality, fish harvest rates and dissolved oxygen. The plan also explains fertilization and liming techniques, techniques to avoid oxygen depletion and specific answers to owners' questions.

Project Title: Aquatic Weed Control
Subcontractor: Professional Ponds
Contractor: Aquascape Environmental
Location: Hilton Head, South Carolina
Project Description: Aquascape sub-contracted Pro Ponds to control aquatic weeds at several golf courses in Hilton Head. The project included weed identification and the application of aquatic herbicides.

Project Title: Electrofishing Survey
Contractor: Professional Ponds
Location: Throughout Georgia
Project Description: Professional Ponds conducts electrofishing surveys on Georgia ponds. Project components include capturing, identifying, and analyzing fish to recommend specific techniques for improving the fish population.

Project Title: Aquatic Weed Control
Contractor: Professional Ponds
Client Name: Blakeford Community
Location: Marietta, Georgia
Project Description: The Blakeford community is centered on a six-acre pond, a third of which had been taken over by aquatic vegetation. The aquatic vegetation was identified as filamentous algae and bushy pondweed. Aquatic herbicides were applied over a three-week period to minimize chance of oxygen depletion. The successful applications destroyed all harmful aquatic vegetation.

Project Title: Aquatic Weed Control
Contractor: Professional Ponds
Client Name: Mr. Pearman
Location: Lilburn, Georgia
Project Description: Aquatic vegetation had overrun over sixty percent of Mr. Pearman's five-acre community pond. Aquatic vegetation was identified as pondweed, bladderwort, fanwort and filamentous algae. The successful application of aquatic herbicides over a five-week period destroyed all harmful aquatic vegetation. To eliminate future pond problems, Mr. Pearman's community signed a pond maintenance contract for 1999.

Project Title: Aquatic Weed Control
Contractor: Professional Ponds
Client Name: Richland Community
Location: Suwanee, Georgia
Project Description: For aquatic weed control and complete pond health, Professional Ponds stocked 250 triploid grass carp and made several applications of aquatic herbicide. The aquatic herbicide applications successfully destroyed all harmful aquatic vegetation. Richland community signed a Total Lake Management contract for 1998 to ensure a healthy, beautiful pond.

Project Title: Lime Applications
Contractor: Professional Ponds
Location: Throughout Georgia
Project Description: Many ponds in Georgia have very soft water caused by the lack of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water. Adding lime to increase the water's hardness is often necessary to prepare a pond for a standard fertilization program. Liming and fertilization can dramatically increase the fish population in a pond. In Georgia, an unfertilized pond will hold around 100 pounds of fish per acre; the same pond under a fertilization program will hold between 300-400 pounds of fish per acre.
